    In 2024, severe flooding has devastated India and Bangladesh, reminiscent of past catastrophic events. These floods have caused widespread displacement, numerous casualties, and extensive damage to infrastructure and agriculture. Your urgent support is needed to provide critical relief to those affected.
     

    The Crisis in Bangladesh

    Bangladesh, one of the most disaster-prone countries globally, frequently faces cyclonic storms, floods, and coastal erosion. This year's floods have severely impacted the Kurigram district, leaving an estimated 150,000 people stranded and causing significant destruction to homes, crops, and infrastructure.
     
    • People Affected: Approximately 3.2 million people affected.
    • Casualties: 76 reported casualties.
    • Cost of Damage: Estimated damage costs around USD 500 million.

    The Crisis in India

     

    Assam, a state in India accustomed to annual floods, is facing unprecedented flooding levels in 2024. The riverine island of Majuli and several districts along the Brahmaputra River have been severely affected. Over 2.9 million people are impacted, with significant loss of life and property damage.

    • People Affected: 2,934,293 people were affected and displaced at the height of the crisis
    • Casualties: 106 reported casualties.
    • Cost of Damage: Estimated damage costs around USD 400 million.
     

    Our Response

    • Food packs: sourcing and distribution of ingredients that suit the palette of each country.
    • Hygiene packs: provide essential supplies to maintain health and prevent diseases.
    • Shelter items: supplying Tarpaulin sheets and other temporary solutions to those that have lost their homes.
    • Ongoing support: we will be monitoring and evaluating the assistance program's impact on the recipient families, and adjusting the approach as necessary.
