Beyond The Headlines
Make your EOFY donation count for the crises the world keeps leaving behind
Not every crisis makes it into the headlines, but the silence does not make the injustice any less significant or real.
Across Sudan to the West Bank, from Uyghurs in exile to Rohingya seeking refuge, families continue to endure displacement, persecution, famine, war, and unimaginable loss. And yet, their stories are too often pushed out of public view.
Beyond the Headlines is Muslim Aid Australia’s End of Financial Year campaign to spotlight crises that have been purposely sidelined and strengthen the advocacy, storytelling, and community capacity needed to keep them seen, heard, and acted upon.
Your donation supports both urgent response and long-term advocacy: helping to provide assistance to Where Most Needed and helping us challenge harmful narratives, amplify affected communities, build strategic partnerships, and mobilise public support for justice and accountability.
Because Muslim Aid Australia is a Tax Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR), every donation over $2 before June 30 may be tax deductible in Australia, reducing your taxable income.
This EOFY, redirect part of your wealth toward work that refuses silence and helps keep forgotten crises in focus.
Donate by 30 June to make your contribution count Where Most Needed this financial year.
Donations of $2 or more are tax deductible in Australia.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is ‘Beyond the Headlines’?
Beyond the Headlines is Muslim Aid Australia’s flagship advocacy campaign highlighting humanitarian crises that continue to impact millions of people despite receiving limited media attention and public awareness. The campaign focuses on communities that have been deliberately silenced despite experiencing ongoing displacement, persecution, conflict, and injustice – all the while encouraging long-term engagement, solidarity and action.
Does my donation support advocacy or humanitarian aid?
Your donation helps support Muslim Aid Australia’s mission as a whole, including humanitarian response and advocacy initiatives. This allows us to respond to immediate needs while also investing in long-term efforts that raise awareness, strengthen communities, and address the root causes of injustice.
Why does a humanitarian organisation invest in advocacy?
Humanitarian aid addresses immediate needs such as food, shelter, healthcare, and protection. Advocacy addresses the conditions that create and prolong suffering. Muslim Aid Australia believes both are necessary. Communities facing conflict, displacement, and persecution need immediate support today, but they also need their stories heard and the systems contributing to their hardship challenged for lasting change to occur.
What does "Where Most Needed" mean?
Where Most Needed donations provide flexibility to direct funds to the areas of greatest need across our humanitarian and advocacy work. This allows Muslim Aid Australia to respond quickly to emerging and actively developing crises, support underfunded emergencies like in the case of Sudanese refugees, Rohingya refugees, Uyghur refugees and hostilities in the West Bank, and allocate resources where they can have the greatest impact.
Why are some crises less visible than others?
Media attention is often influenced by political, geographic, economic, and strategic factors. As a result, many humanitarian emergencies receive limited coverage despite affecting millions of people. This especially happens when crises and wars are beneficial to some parties at the expense of civilian life. Beyond the Headlines seeks to challenge this imbalance by bringing greater awareness to communities whose stories are too often overlooked.
Is my EOFY donation tax deductible?
Yes. Muslim Aid Australia is a registered Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR). Donations of $2 or more may be tax deductible in Australia. We recommend seeking independent financial or tax advice regarding your individual circumstances.
When do I need to donate to claim a tax deduction this financial year?
To be eligible for the current financial year, donations must be successfully processed before 11:59pm (AEST) on 30 June.
Will I receive a tax receipt?
Yes. A tax receipt will be issued for eligible donations and can be used when preparing your tax return.
