5 Important Duas for a Traveller

Arabic:
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ تَوَكَّلْـتُ عَلَى اللَّهِ، وَلاَ حَوْلَ وَلاَ قُـوَّةَ إِلاَّ بِاللَّهِ
Transliteration:
Bismil-lah, tawakkaltu AAalal-lah, wala hawla wala quwwata illa billah.
Translation:
In the name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah, and there is no might nor power except with Allah.
Significance:
This dua is recited whenever you leave your home, whether for a long journey or just a short trip. It is a reminder that we are dependent on Allah for protection and success in all our endeavors. 2. Dua for Protection While Travelling:
Arabic:
اللّهُمَّ إِنَّا نَسْأَلُكَ فِي سَفَرِنَا هَذَا البِرَّ وَالتَّقْوَى، وَمِنَ العَمَلِ مَا تَرْضَى
Transliteration:
Allahumma inna nas’aluka fi safarina hadha al-birra wat-taqwa wa minal ‘amali ma tarda.
Translation:
O Allah, we ask You in this journey of ours for righteousness and piety, and deeds that are pleasing to You.
Significance:
This supplication seeks protection from harm and guidance toward good deeds during travel. By asking Allah for righteousness and piety, we remind ourselves to maintain high moral standards and ensure our actions align with what pleases Allah, even when we are far from home.
3. Dua Upon Boarding a Vehicle
Arabic:
سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي سَخَّرَ لَنَا هَذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لَهُ مُقْرِنِينَ وَإِنَّا إِلَى رَبِّنَا لَمُنْقَلِبُونَ
Transliteration:
Subhana-alladhi sakh-khara la-na hadha wa ma kunna la-hu muqrinin. Wa inna ila Rabbi-na la munqalibun.
Translation:
Glory unto Him Who created this transportation, for us, though we were unable to create it on our own. And unto our Lord we shall return.
Significance:
This is the dua for when you board any mode of transportation, be it a car, plane, or boat. It serves as a reminder that all the conveniences of life are blessings from Allah. We acknowledge that without His permission, we wouldn’t have the means to travel or the safety to reach our destinations
4. Dua for Safe Arrival
Arabic:
اللّهُمَّ هَوِّنْ عَلَيْنَا سَفَرَنَا هَذَا، وَاطْوِ عَنَّا بُعْدَهُ
Transliteration:
Allahumma hawwin ‘alayna safarana hadha wa twi ‘anna bu’dahu.
Translation:
O Allah, make this journey easy for us and shorten its distance.
Significance:
This dua asks for ease during the journey and protection from the hardships of travel. You can say this dua when you're on a plane, boat or car! It’s a reminder that, although journeys may seem long and tiring, by seeking Allah’s assistance, the journey can feel smoother and more bearable.
5. Dua Upon Returning Home
Arabic:
آيِبُونَ، تَائِبُونَ، عَابِدُونَ، لِرَبِّنَا حَامِدُونَ
Transliteration:
A’ibuna, ta’ibuna, ‘abiduna, li-rabbina hamidun.
Translation:
We return, repentant, worshipping, and praising our Lord.
Significance:
When returning home from a journey, this dua is a means of expressing gratitude to Allah for bringing us back safely. It is also a moment to reflect on the experiences gained during the journey, and it is a reminder to return to Allah in worship and thankfulness.
