The control and closure of the Rafah crossing, one of the most critical access points, has put countless lives at risk. The impact of this blockade is catastrophic, leaving vulnerable families and individuals without the necessary resources to survive. Cindy McCain, the American director of the U.N. World Food Program, recently declared that “There is famine — full-blown famine — in the north, and it’s moving its way south.”

The situation demands immediate and stern intervention from global leaders, especially governments like Australia, which can play a pivotal role in advocating for human rights and humanitarian aid. We stand with the international community in calling for the Australian government to urgently intervene.

We urge the government to:

1. Utilise its international relations to press for an immediate reopening of the Rafah and other Gaza crossings.
2. Implement diplomatic measures to ensure the safe passage and distribution of humanitarian aid.
3. Advocate for the cessation of hostilities and protection of civilians in Gaza.
4. Implement a two-way arms embargo and targeted sanctions against Israeli officials responsible for policies exacerbating the humanitarian crisis.

The seizure of the Rafah crossing is not just a logistical barrier—it is a direct attack on the lifelines of thousands of Gaza's residents. This moment calls for more than passive support; it demands active participation in safeguarding basic human rights and dignity.
