It marks the 10th day of <strong>Muharram<\/strong>, the sacred first month of the Islamic calendar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is Ashura?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Ashura is one of the greatest days in the Islamic calendar. It commemorates the day that <strong>Allah \ufdfb saved Prophet Musa (AS) and Bani Isra\u2019il from Pharaoh<\/strong>, a moment of divine victory, courage, and faith.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When the Prophet \ufdfa arrived in Madinah, he noticed that the Jews were fasting on this day. Upon asking why, they responded that it was the day Allah saved Musa (AS). The Prophet \ufdfa replied:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>\u201cWe have more right, and we have a closer connection with Moses than you have.\u201d<\/strong><br>[Sahih Bukhari]<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>He fasted that day and encouraged the Ummah to fast as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Reward of Fasting on Ashura<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Prophet \ufdfa said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>\u201cFasting the day of &#8216;Ashura I hope Allah will expiate thereby for the year that came before it.<\/strong><br>[Muslim, 1162]<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Just one day. A whole year of sins forgiven.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Ibn Abbas (RA), the Prophet \ufdfa was so eager to fast this day that he said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>\u201cI did not see the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, as eager to fast a day and preferring it over others except for this day of Ashura and this month of Ramadan.\u201d<\/strong><br>[Bukhari, 1902]<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Should We Fast Only on the 10th?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>No. The Prophet \ufdfa advised us to <strong>fast the 9th and 10th<\/strong> together to distinguish ourselves from the People of the Book.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Abd-Allaah ibn \u2018Abbaas (ra) said: When the Messenger of Allaah (SAW) fasted on the day of \u2018Ashoora and told the people to fast, they said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cO Messenger of Allaah, this is a day that is venerated by the Jews and Christians.\u201d <br><br>The Messenger of Allaah (SAW) said, \u201cNext year, if Allaah wills, we will fast on the ninth day.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But by the time the following year came, the Messenger of Allaah (SAW) had passed away.<br>[Bukhari, 1902]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s also a time to increase in <strong>sadaqah, dhikr, Qur\u2019an, and gratitude<\/strong>, any act of worship that brings you closer to Allah \ufdfb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ashura is expected to fall on Saturday, 5th July 2025, a powerful day of fasting, reflection, and gratitude.
