It\u2019s the first month of the Islamic calendar and one of the four sacred months mentioned by Allah \ufdfb in the Qur\u2019an. Good deeds are multiplied, and sins are more grave. Muslims should increase in worship during Muharram; that includes reflecting, giving Sadaqah, increasing nafl (voluntary) prayers, reciting Qur\u2019an, tadabur and fasting.<\/span><\/p>

\u201c\u2026The year is of twelve months, out of which four months are sacred: Three are in subsequent Dhul Qadah, Dhul Hijjah and Muharram, and (the fourth is) Rajab of (the tribe of) Mudar which comes between Jumada Al-Thani and Sha\u2019ban.\u201d\u00a0 [Sahih Al-Bukhari]<\/span><\/p>

Muharram is a time to increase in your worship and abstain from sins.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Muharram was the month the Prophet \ufdfa fasted most, after Ramadan. It is encouraged to increase in your fasting especially. But, to take advantage of the sacred month, there are many forms of worship that you can increase in, including voluntary prayers, sadaqah, tadabur and recitation of the Quran, dua and supporting your Ummah.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/details>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t

Ashura falls on the 10th of Muharram. Many important events in Islamic History occurred on this day.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Fasting on the Day of Ashura expiates the minor sins of the previous year and the year after it insha\u2019Allah.<\/span><\/p>

\u201cFasting the day of \u2018Arafah I hope Allah will expiate thereby for the year before it and the year after it, and fasting the day of ‘Ashura I hope Allah will expiate thereby for the year that came before it.\u201d [Narrated by Muslim, 1162].<\/span><\/p>

When fasting on the 10th, you should also fast on either the 9th or 11th, to differentiate ourselves from the People of the Book.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

When the Messenger of Allah (\ufdfa) fasted on the day of \u2018Ashura and told the people to fast, they said, \u201cO Messenger of Allah, this is a day that is venerated by the Jews and Christians.\u201d The Messenger of Allah (\ufdfa) said, \u201cNext year, if Allah wills, we will fast on the ninth day.\u201d But by the time the following year came, the Messenger of Allah (\ufdfa) had passed away.
